If you’re pulling together your spring bucket list, make sure to add this amazing kayak paddling tour through Knoch Knolls Park. Located in Naperville, Illinois, this tour on the gorgeous DuPage River is a wonderful way to spend a sunny day.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
If you're itching to get out of your house and into the great outdoors, there's plenty of wonderful places all around Illinois to explore.
The DuPage River is a beautiful spot to adventure by kayak or stand up paddle. Naperville Kayak offers river trips that start in the beautiful Knoch Knolls Park.
You'll be outfitted with a kayak or paddle board, and a personal floatation device.
If you're taking out a kayak on your own, you must be at least 13 years old to rent one. Otherwise, you must be at least eight years of age and travel in a tandem kayak with an adult.
The entire trip time depends on how the water is flowing.
You can expect to be on the river from anywhere between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This is the perfect amount of time to enjoy the sights around you, and see all the lovely quiet spots of this area from a new vantage point.
As you travel the river, you will see tons of amazing wildlife.
Expect to see river otters, turtles, plenty of fish, and maybe even a mink or two! A mink breeder along the river shut down a few years ago and released the animals into the wild, so you may run into one of these small mammals!
The river trip is recommended for those with kayaking experience.
If you're a beginner, they offer rentals at the more placid Whalon Lake. The lake is calm and quiet, and a great place to stand up paddle or kayak for the first time.
To rent a single kayak or paddle board for the river trip is $39.00.
If you're interested in renting a tandem kayak, it's $78.00 per rental. It includes transportation back to Knoch Knolls Park.
Whether you head out on the river, or stay on the quiet Whalon Lake, a kayaking adventure in Naperville should be on your summer bucket list.
You can rent from Naperville Kayak Fridays through Sundays all summer long. Keep checking their website and Facebook page to see when they reopen!
