Peony Hill Farm on 12 acres in southern Illinois is one of the most beautiful places in the world come springtime. It is awash with pretty pastels and floral scents that would intoxicate anyone in April and May, and you've got to check it out.
Peonies are a type of perennial that are modified to produce bigger buds. They are generally pink and often symbolize romance, honor, happiness, and compassion.
This outstanding peony farm grows 10 different varieties of this gorgeous flower. All shades of pinks, reds, corals, and whites abound on this hillside farm.
These delicate flowers have a quick season. Once the peonies start to bloom, they typically only run about four or five weeks between late April and early May.
Peonies are picked as they are ready. Once the buds are soft and beginning to break open, the stems are cut above the second set of leaves from the ground.
At most, only a few days pass between the time the flowers are cut and sold to retailers. Additionally, the peony farm has its own retail and wholesale business that keeps it traveling around the Midwest (and even Tennessee) to sell its cuts at farmers markets.
