7 Old-Fashioned Festivals In Illinois That Will Take You Back In Time
Go back in time with seven unique history festivals taking place this summer in Illinois. From war reenactments to Medieval games, this list will give you a bunch of ways to experience another time and place.
These festivals feature people in period clothing portraying citizens from the past. Check them out:
1. Fort De Charles June Rendezvous
Happening June 2-3, 2018, this will be the 48th year for this popular event. Guests enjoy shooting competitions, military drills, and 18th century goods sellers as well as dancing, music, and food. Discover what it was like for our ancestors in the 1700s. The event takes place at Forte de Charles Historic Site located at 1350 IL-155., Prairie Du Rocher, IL 62277.
2. History Comes Alive
Taking place throughout Springfield, this event allows guests to enjoy period music and 19th century characters. Visit historic sites throughout the city for storytelling, costumed enactments, and visits from Abraham Lincoln himself. Giving you plenty of time to enjoy what might be the state's longest historic festival, this one lasts June 5 through August 12, 2018.
3. Elgin Civil War Experience
This war reenactment will take place June 9-10, 2018 and is complete with both Confederate and Union encampments as well as medical field operations. Enjoy these live skirmishes at 60 S Grove Ave., Elgin IL 60120.
4. Living History Weekend
This festival features reenactors playing out 18th century battle tactics and having mock skirmishes. Taking place along the banks of the Ohio River, this event is happening June 9-10, 2018 at 1308 E 5th St., Metropolis IL 62960.
5. Olde English Faire
Taking place June 22-24, 2018, this one of the most unique history festivals in the state. Enter a world of fairies, knights, war horses, princes and princesses, and much more. Guests will enjoy jousting and sword fighting demonstrations as well as storytellers and vendors of food, art, clothing, accessories, and more. It will be open each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wildlife Prairie Park which is located at 3826 North Taylor Rd., Hanna City, IL 61536
6. Hardin County Heritage Festival
This July 7, 2018 event celebrates the birth of our nation with outdoor games similar to those from the early 1800s. There will also be a parade, a quilt show, duck races, craft and food vendors, and a pageant. It takes place in downtown Elizabathtown along Main Street.
7. Lincoln's Festival On 66
Illinoisans who find pride in this being the Land of Lincoln will adore this fun festival. The event features a car show, a cruise-in, and many Lincoln-specific activities. It is happening July 20-22, 2018 with different attractions taking place throughout Bloomington-Normal.
