The coming 2022-2023 winter season will bring plenty of below-average temperatures that will chill you to the bone. The Farmers' Almanac has just released its 2023-2023 winter weather predictions. This has been a go-to publication for long-term weather forecasts since 1818, helping many people plan ahead.

The forecasts are determined by a secret formula that takes into account a variety of factors, including sunspots, planetary positions, and tidal action.
The 2022-2023 winter season in Illinois will be a typical one, but with a bit more chill than usual. We're likely to get frigid temperatures and at times, a great deal of snow.

January in Illinois is expected to be particularly cold, especially towards the middle of the month. By this point, the winter weather will really start to kick in, and you can expect plenty of icy, flaky conditions.
For the north-central states, a region that includes Illinois, a heavy blizzard is expected sometime in late January.

What is winter in Illinois like?

Winter in Illinois can vary depending on what area of the state you're in. In the southern areas, highs generally range in the 40s for most of the winter, but it's about 10-15 degrees colder in the northern half of the state. The northern parts of the state, especially around the Chicago area, get quite a bit of snow on average. Even in southern Illinois, we average about 14 inches of snow each year.
