Here Are 7 Unique Things You Can Only Find in Idaho

Idaho offers unique attractions and experiences that can't be found anywhere else, including natural wonders, distinctive foods, and quirky Airbnbs.

Idahoans know that the Gem State is truly special. Our great state is home to certain things that tend to set us apart from other states around the country. We have landmarks, food, businesses, and outdoor wonders that you just can’t find anywhere else. In fact, here are just seven unique things in Idaho. You can only find these things here.

1. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve

Craters of the Moon is one of the most fascinating natural wonders in the entire world, and it is found right here in Idaho. This is essentially large fields of hardened lava flow that date back thousands of years. Hike, camp, and explore this incredible area in the state—you may not even feel like you are in Idaho anymore! It's one of the most unique places to visit in Idaho.

2. Potato Ice Cream

Of course, our list had to include Idaho’s iconic dessert—potato ice cream! If you want to try it, the birthplace of this dessert is Westside Drive-In in Boise. Stop by to enjoy a burger, drink, and this delicious frozen treat!

5. Potato Hotel, Boise

While here in Idaho we have potato ice cream, we also have a potato hotel. Idaho is home to a 6-ton potato that was once used to travel around the country and promote Idaho’s crop. Today, it is now a 28-foot-long and 12-foot-wide Airbnb complete with a queen-size bed, indoor fireplace, and more. You can book your stay at the Potato Hotel on Airbnb.

3. Cedar Street Bridge, Sandpoint

The Cedar Street Bridge in Sandpoint is not your average bridge. This unique Idaho bridge has been transformed into a marketplace complete with restaurants, shops, and more. It connects Sandpoint’s downtown area to the train depot on the bank of Sand Creek.

4. The Sawtooth Mountains

While many other states boast incredible mountain ranges, very few compare to the Sawtooth Mountains. In fact, the Sawtooths are not only one of the most photographed mountains in the entire country, but they are also filled with outdoor opportunities galore. The Sawtooth Mountains stretch 678 miles and feature 57 peaks that are greater than 10,000 feet in elevation.

6. Shoshone Falls, Twin Falls

Most other states are home to waterfalls, but very few have falls that are as large and impressive as Shoshone Falls. These falls are 212 feet tall and fall off a 925-foot-wide cliff. Shoshone Falls are even larger than Niagara Falls back east, which is why they are often referred to as the Niagara Falls of the West.

7. Flower Pot Tiny Home Airbnb, Burley

Yes, we have unique vacation rentals in Idaho like a potato, but also trending Airbnbs like this tiny home in Burley that is shaped like a flower pot. This delightful place to stay is perfect for an unforgettable getaway with cozy amenities, a rooftop patio, a hot tub, and beautiful southern Idaho views.
