With more than two dozen state parks in Idaho, some are much more popular than others. Massacre Rocks is one of the lesser-known state parks, but certainly bucket-list-worthy, particularly for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs. Massacre Rocks State Park is located near American Falls in southern Idaho. This state park sits right along the Snake River, offering some remarkable views.
Thousands of years ago, this area was shaped by the Bonneville Flood. This massive flood was so powerful that it moved and polished huge boulders, helping to create the landscape that we know and love today.

Despite its geological history, this state park is actually named after its pioneer history. This area was a popular stop for pioneers traveling on the Oregon Trail and was named after an emigrant wagon party battle.
During your visit to this state park, make sure to stop at Register Rock. This large boulder is covered in signatures of the brave individuals who made the journey through this area to Oregon. You can also find many amenities near Register Rock for a beautiful day outdoors such as large trees, grassy areas, picnic tables, etc.

Bring your entire family during a visit to this lesser-known state park in Idaho. Make sure you plan a stop and capture some gorgeous images at the beautiful scenic overlook of the Snake River.

Try your luck on the 18-hole disc golf course located around the park. However, be aware that this is no easy course as you’ll play among trees and sagebrush, in narrow fairways, with various elevation changes, and more.
