Twin Falls is known for its incredible waterfalls. From Shoshone Falls to Perrine Coulee Falls, there are some magnificent waterfalls in the area. However, there is one that not many people know about or have even seen in person — Pillar Falls. In fact, the best way to view these falls is to paddle down the Snake River. It’s one adventure on the water with an incredible finish that is sure to light up your soul.
Tucked away in the Snake River Canyon, approximately one mile east of the I.B. Perrine Bridge, is the stunning Pillar Falls. While there is a hike you can take to view the falls, floating along the river to Pillar Falls is one adventure that you won’t soon forget and one that I strongly recommend.
Beginning in downtown Twin Falls, you can venture on the Snake River in a kayak, paddleboard, etc. You’ll want to continue down the river until you reach the Perrine Bridge. Take your time and enjoy the views in this stretch of water. You’ll paddle underneath the bridge and from any angle, this structure is remarkable.
You do not have to worry about the water being rough and challenging to navigate as you paddle. This stretch of the Snake River is wide and typically quite calm. You’ll continue on the river for approximately two more miles before you reach your destination and it sure is breathtaking.
Pillar Falls is essentially a series of waterfalls created by Rhyolite pillars. These pillars create a unique scene and certainly one that is beautiful in every way.
Enjoy the views and relax before you head back up the river. The towering pillars create a scene that is almost impossible to forget and one you won't want to leave.
Always wear a life jacket when on this padding adventure and never hop into the water and swim at Pillar Falls. This area of the river features extremely strong undercurrents and is quite dangerous.
The journey isn’t long and treacherous, and the views are quite spectacular. Paddling to Pillar Falls in Twin Falls is one adventure you’ll want to make a summer tradition — you’ll certainly want to do it over and over again!
