Stay Overnight in A 174-Year-Old Hotel That’s Said to be Haunted at The Volcano House Hotel in Hawaii
Hawaii is easily one of the crown jewels of the United States. This beautiful network of islands has more than its fair share of history and natural wonders. However, one destination in particular rises above the rest in the spooky factor. Do you dare stay at this haunted hotel in Hawaii?

Madame Pele is revered and respected among Hawaiian natives as the fire goddess of volcanoes and lightning. It is whispered that she has been seen walking the hotel grounds and greeting guests, only for them to later realize with whom they were speaking.

The hotel was built on Kilauea in 1846 and expanded upon in 1866. It is now nearly two centuries old and filled with stories.

During the lifetime of the Volcano House Hotel, the staff has lovingly worked to keep the hotel in the same excellent condition as it was during Twain's visits.

It has been rumored that the dog may be an incarnation of Madame Pele when she's not spooking guests in her spirit form. However, it is unknown where the ghostly canine apparition truly originated.

Whatever their motivation for walking among the guests and the employees of Volcano House Hotel, the spirits are a much-loved and welcomed facet of the property.

Nearby is the geologic wonder of the Thurston Lava Tubes, as well as the Jagger Museum for those fascinated by volcanology. One can easily spend an entire afternoon getting lost in every beautiful thing Kilauea has to show them.

One must take care not to agitate the spirits, as it is said that those who take rocks and other souvenirs from the volcano are subsequently the victims of wave after wave of terrible luck. Each year, tourists mail volcanic rock and glass back to the island - likely following misfortune and confirmation of this legend.
