As the most isolated population center on earth, the Hawaiian Islands are about as unique as they come. And with such unique landscapes, history and culture come photographs you will never find anywhere else, from hilarious signs and breathtaking beaches to wandering chickens and beautiful views interrupted by the ever-present tourists. While every photograph taken in Hawaii is – in some way – unique, these are 15 of the most Hawaiian photos ever taken. We sure hope you love them as much as we do.

1. There’s nothing more Hawaiian than our breathtaking crystalline waters and fine white sand.

2. Except maybe a classic Hawaiian sunset.

4. Volcanic waste is a big deal in Hawaii.

5. Because there’s nothing more famous than Waikiki Beach.

6. And you’ll find surfboards everywhere…

7. This is the only weather station you need in Hawaii.

8. There are chickens all over the place.

9. The chickens are outnumbered only by tourists – especially at Diamond Head.

10. Because one of our greatest road threats is the invisible cow.

11. And lava – lots of lava. Also, volcano insurance.

12. Where else will you see a dog wearing a grass skirt and lei?

13. Hawaii time is a little different, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

14. Nothing is more Hawaiian than breathtaking waterfalls.

15. And, of course, we can’t forget those iconic Hawaiian rainbows and stunning landscapes.

What is it like to live in Hawaii?

Like anywhere, there are certainly pros and cons to living in Hawaii. If you’re new to island living, you might find yourself experiencing a bit of culture shock — after all, as the most isolated population center on the planet, the Hawaiian Islands are unlike anywhere else in the world. From the islands’ culture and history to our traditions, favorite foods, and strange habits, everything about living in Hawaii is a little bit, well, different.

What are the best things about living in Hawaii?

There’s nowhere else we’d rather call home than the beautiful Aloha State. Across the Hawaiian Islands, life is a little slower, and we choose to embody the Aloha Spirit in everything we do. From the stunning, panoramic views and that intoxicating tropical ocean breeze to the mouthwatering local food and an emphasis on ohana, there are so, so many things to love about living in Hawaii — but everyone has their own opinions. I think we can all agree that the rest of America could learn a thing or two about life from the islands, though.

What are the weirdest things about Hawaii?

While we might take offense to the word “weird” at times, there’s no denying that the Aloha State is one of the most unique places in the entire country. From bizarre historic stories to the odd places you can visit, you’ll love learning about what makes the Hawaiian Islands so quirky. I personally love telling everyone I meet about the odd and elusive colony of wallabies you’ll find hiding in Oahu’s Kalihi Valley.
