Here in the Peach State, we love to be outdoors. After all, we’ve got some incredible scenery, so why wouldn’t we want to be out there reveling in it?! There’s no shortage of amazing hikes in Georgia, and there are a number of great long-distance trails currently under construction all over the state. One of the best is the Firefly Trail. What will eventually run from Athens to Union Point, this trail will become a must-visit weekend excursion for Georgians and local travelers. Check it out:

The Firefly Trail will eventually run 39 miles, all the way from Athens to Union Point. The path will connect Athens-Clarke, Oglethorpe, and Greene Counties.

Several parts of the Firefly Trail are already open, and you can already enjoy trekking through Winterville and Athens.

The segment in Athens that goes through Dudley Park unfortunately required the demolition of the old "Murmur Bridge." I love that the new bridge design pays tribute to the old, and you can catch great views from atop the bridge.

The Murmur Bridge was pictured on the back of R.E.M.'s debut album Murmur. It was a beloved landmark for locals, as R.E.M. is one of the the best known bands to come out of the Classic City. The new bridge is pictured above.
