We have dozens of state parks in Georgia, each with its own trails, beauty, and history. There’s no shortage of places to get outside and enjoy all the natural scenery that surrounds us in the Peach State. It can be easy to overlook some of our great city parks just because we have so many excellent state parks to enjoy, but make sure to not forget about them when you’re planning your adventures! Today, we’ll be featuring one municipal park that has as many amenities as many state parks: Memorial Park in Athens. The city may be known for its status as the home of the University of Georgia, but it’s also a nature lover’s paradise, with several great parks. One of our favorites is Memorial Park: there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy here.

The park is home to several wooded trails within its 72 acres.

There's also a paved walking trail around a pond.

The pond is a popular spot for fishing and also wildlife watching. Ducks, geese, and turtles are all frequently-spotted visitors to the pond.
The outdoor pool is open in the summer and is a great spot to let the kids let off some energy and cool down on a hot day.

The enclosed area provides a great opportunity for friendly dogs to explore, particularly if you don't have a yard at home.
You'll also find Bear Hollow Zoo here, a small zoo containing native animals that you can observe in natural enclosures.

These animals have either behavioral or physical issues that prevent them from being released into the wild.
This is such a great park in Georgia that's got so much to offer visitors!
