This Winery in Wisconsin Used to be a Gas Station and You’ll Want to Visit
Lake Mills is a quaint town on Rock Lake about 30 miles east of Madison. There's a ton of charm and history in their little downtown arranged a small park. It's a change of pace from the nearby hectic cities and it's a great town for a little getaway.
Sitting right on that little park in the center of town is Lewis Station Winery. In a remodeled gas station, this little winery is making award-winning wines that are unique and delicious.
The location is absolutely charming and so easy to find right in downtown Lake Mills.
Inside you'll find an awesome tasting bar with knowledgeable staff ready to help you find your favorite of their wines.
But this is the kind of place I wish I lived closer to - I'd be here all the time on their lovely patio.
Like most folks here in Wisconsin, these guys know how to take advantage of our warm months. Great food grilled on the patio, good friends and a delicious glass of wine are the way to do it!
Cozy up to the fire as the sun goes down and continue to sample from their wide array of unique wines.
The old gas station thing isn't a gimmick - here's their building in the 1970's, when it was a gas station and used car lot.
The wines here are unlike anything I've had elsewhere. They've got their line of standard wines, but they seem to have perfected adding some unique and amazing flavors to those base wines. They half fermentation near the completion of the wine and add fruit to enhance the flavors. They're not making fruit wine - they're supplementing their solid wine base with fruit. It's a distinction and it makes their wines incredibly flavorful, deep, rich and unique.
I'm not the only one who loves them - their wines have won tons of awards.
The win will bring you here, but the food will bring you back. They have a talented chef who offers a limited menu to supplement the wines day-to-day, but who really shines for their Wednesday wine and tapas nights. For $25, you get two glasses of wine and all the tapas you can eat.
The location is available for private events and they also hold a variety of classes.
This little place is a hidden gem and well worth a trip off the beaten path.
They're also a member of the Wisconsin Winery Co-op, so make sure you get your passport book signed.

Lewis Station Winery is located at 217 N Main St, Lake Mills, WI 53551.
