Plenty of places serve good coffee in a cafe setting, but very few can really be called a proper "coffee shop." These are the places that have cool interiors, friendly staff, and coffee in REAL MUGS. We are profiling ten of the best coffee shops in Wisconsin.

1. Kavarna Coffeehouse

Hey, recognize that guy? It's Alton Brown and he stopped in at Kavarna Coffeehouse while he was in Green Bay. Many people stop in for a while, to this cafe with tons of vegetarian offerings, and vegan desserts. Desserts rotate and you will never get bored.

2. Firefly Coffeehouse

In Oregon, Wisconsin, Firefly Coffeehouse is referred to as the living room of Oregon. Yes, it is a gathering space of sorts for the citizens. But they don't just come back for the great ambiance - they love the fresh-brewed coffee and hand-crafted drinks.

3. The Coffee House at Chestnut and Pine

In Burlington, open mic and live music makes The Coffee House a happening spot, from early in the morning until late into the night. They serve high-quality coffee from Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company in Milwaukee. They also serve meals, from breakfast through dinner.

4. Michelangelo's Coffee House

In Madison, Michelangel's Coffee House has been a staple since 1997. It has a great view of the capital from the outdoor cafe. They serve fresh Fair Trade coffee and awesome bakery offerings.

5. Zest Bakery and Coffeehouse

In Stevens Point, you need to stop Zest Bakery and Coffeehouse to get a great, handcrafted cup of coffee. They also serve some delicious pastries (as pictured here) and smoothies. It's frequented by college students and community members alike.

6. Mugs Coffeehouse

In Ripon, Mugs Coffeehouse provides a warm community setting and some delicious coffee. They serve Colectivo Coffee (out of Milwaukee) and delicious, unique bakery treats.

7. Cafe Fromage

Please note, Cafe Fromage is no longer in business.

It's only in Wisconsin, that a coffee shop would be inspired by cheese. They make all sorts of treats from scratch, including delicious sandwiches and bakery items. Head to Beloit for new American food with some excellent coffee.

8. Blue Goose Coffee House

Since 2006, Blue Goose Coffee House has been a place to enjoy a great cup of coffee in Fond du Lac. They serve some delicious Italian sodas, smoothies and baked goods.

9. Red Mug Coffeehouse

Surely you recognize Vice President Biden visiting Red Mug here. Red Mug is located in Superior. It's a place to meet friends and where the community can come together. Um, and they serve amazing desserts.

10. The Open Door Coffeehouse

The Open Door Coffeehouse operates in Mayville. They serve delicious, handcrafted coffee drinks in an intimate setting. It is a nonprofit coffeehouse providing free development skills to community members.
