This Quirky Little West Virginia Restaurant Is The Definition Of A Hidden Gem

Whether you currently live in West Virginia or not, if you grew up in the Mountain State then you know it'll always be home to you regardless of what roads you may travel in life. And no place feels more like home than a charming little unassuming restaurant way out in the country.

The Hutte Swiss Restaurant in Helvetia checks all of the boxes for an ideal road trip.

It's located in Helvetia (population 59) just outside the eastern panhandle on a picturesque country road that's begging to be explored (and admired) on your drive to the restaurant.

In the best way possible, Hutte is at the other end of the spectrum from the boring chain restaurants you'll find at home. The main dining room (seen below) is bright and lively and filled with authentic treasures from the past.

And the food is a flavorful delight for your taste buds — and your eyes! If you think you've never had Swiss food before and are at all hesitant, we can assure you that you'll find plenty of agreeable choices. (Who doesn't love potato cakes, and that chicken looks so tender!)

Just want a sandwich? You can get that too, and if you can't decide which one, then just ask for a couple half sandwiches.

If anything is resoundingly true from visitor reviews, it's that the staff is super friendly and eager to please.

There's plenty of room for big crowds, though. Hutte has six quaint dining rooms, each with a theme. This sounds like at least six opportunities to visit so you can sit in each one!

One thing to know before you go: bring cash or check; cards are not accepted at Hutte.
