Washington's dining scene is second to none. Whether you want a hearty burger from a roadside stand that has been around for decades or an upscale experience at a trendy new eatery, you'll find it here. And while we love a good fine dining experience, we can all admit some of those spots are located in areas that aren't easy for us to reach, and the prices are intimidating.
The Chef Behind the Curtain is a breath of fresh air. It's located in a small town (and not easy to spot), tiny, chef owned and operated, and the food is phenomenal. It's really no wonder that this place books up weeks (and even months) in advance.
The Chef Behind the Curtain is located in Snohomish, a small city in Snohomish County with a population of around 10,000.
Once known mainly for its antique shops, downtown Snohomish has really branched out in recent years, opening more boutiques, home furnishings shops, and restaurants.
This is not a large space—the dining area is quite small, but it feels cozy and intimate.
And since it's only open for dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., you'll want to make your dinner reservation as far in advance as you can.
The food here can only be described as exquisite.
A lot of details go into planning every meal, and you can tell by the tasting menu that this is a place that takes pride in what they serve.
Chef Joel Childs uses local ingredients as much as possible—and for the PNW, that means lots of fresh seafood, produce, and house-made dressings and sauces.
As you can imagine, the menu rotates seasonally.
Here's the best part about dining here, besides the tempting menu: it's more affordable than you might think.
Chef Childs wants to keep things as affordable as possible. Here, you can get an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $55. There are even bottles of wine that sell for around $20.
Needless to say, you should absolutely say yes to dessert at a place like this.
This is not a place to pass up such decadence.
This October, the Chef Behind the Curtain will release a new 11-course tasting menu.
And it will be much easier to make a reservation here than somewhere like Seattle or Spokane.
Do you prefer fine dining or a laid back atmosphere when you go out for a meal? At the Chef Behind the Curtain, you can have both.
