The phrase "living your best life" means different things to different people. However, most of us can agree that walking up to a window and ordering a giant slice of cake certainly qualifies. And that's exactly what the owners of The Cat and Rabbitt, a new bakery in Tacoma, had in mind when they came up with their creative concept.
Tacoma's newest scratch-cake bakery sells cake by the slice, conveniently delivered through a walk-up window. It's such a simple idea, and yet, it is the greatest thing ever.
The Cat and Rabbitt is located on 6th Avenue in Tacoma.
The bakery opened in November 2020, which is part of the reason the walk-up window is so popular -- people could have their cake and eat it too, minimizing their exposure to others by staying outside.
Not long after the cake shop opened, daily lines started to form -- and they have not stopped.
Once the word got out, the locals simply couldn't get enough.
Co-owners Julia Brown and Terryn Abbitt simply wanted people to be able to walk up to their window and order a slice of the best cake they'd ever have.
They had both been working as the pastry super duo at X Group Catering, but they got laid off during the pandemic. So they came up with a more creative venture, and the rest is history.
The Cat and Rabbitt serves cake by the slice every day until they run out.
And if you really do think it's the best cake of your life, it's not just your imagination. Surprise flavor enhancers boost the taste and texture of the cake, which is soaked (a pastry trick chefs use to add moisture and texture) before serving.
While the daily cake by the slice is the focus here, you'll sometimes see other pastries and treats available for purchase.
Simply ask what's available before placing your order -- you might be surprised.
Special occasion cakes are also available here, although you'll have to pre-order them two weeks in advance.
Each cake is available as a 9 inch, which serves 12-24 lucky people.
The Cat and Rabbitt is open Wednesday - Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.
Sometimes the cake sells out much earlier than 5 p.m., so if you have a serious craving, make sure to arrive much earlier.
Have you stopped by The Cat and the Rabbitt yet?
