I’m Convinced That The Sourdough Donuts From Belle Bakery In Virginia Are The Best In The State

Donuts in Virginia aren't hard to find. From the multitude of Krispy Kreme locations, Duck Donuts, or even Dunkin' Donuts, you'll find plenty of them throughout the state. But, as I've learned from my visit to Belle Bakery in Charlottesville, not all donuts are created equal. The key difference lies in both quality and ingredients. Belle uses sourdough for all of their baked goods -- including the donuts! Here's more on why I'm convinced that the sourdough donuts from Belle Bakery are the best that the state has to offer.

Welcome to Belle! Tucked away in the heart of Charlottesville's charming Belmont neighborhood, this bakery is one that belongs on your radar.

This cozy bakery was established in 2019 with the mission of using locally sourced ingredients to benefit the community.

Belle is unique for many reasons, but mostly for its use of sourdough. As stated on the website, "all of our breads and pastries are hand-made and baked in-house. we only use 100% organic flours to make every single baked item. We do not use commercial yeasts and all of our baked items are 100% sourdough."

You really can taste the difference! When you step inside, you'll find a display case of everything for sale, all of which has been baked that day -- if not that hour!

My go-to order is a donut and cappuccino. The selection of donuts changes daily, so you never know what seasonal variety will be on offer.

Some delicious options include strawberry, blueberry, coffee, matcha, cinnamon sugar, and more.

Of course, you don't need to be a fan of donuts to appreciate Belle. Sandwiches, made-to-order coffees, and a full-service bar set this place apart.

Belle Bakery is open daily at 8:00 a.m., with brunch served on Sundays, and there's also the Belle Brasserie which is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. There is indoor seating as well as patio seating. During the chilly months, they've even got a fire pit to gather around. And don't be too discouraged if there's a line out the door; it moves quickly, and the baked goods are always worth the wait!
