Virginia Was Named One Of The Best BBQ Destinations In The Entire U.S.
Here in Virginia, we pride ourselves on our cuisine. Whether it's fine dining or down home cookin', folks around here sure know their way around a kitchen. Therefore, it may not surprise many Virginians to hear that Virginia barbecue is rated some of the best in the entire country. In fact, it seems more like affirmation of what we already believed to be true. The consumer review site TripAdvisor released its America's Top 10 Best BBQ Restaurants, and one spot (among many) is Richmond's HogsHead Cafe. If you've yet to stop by, you're in for a real treat.
HogsHead Cafe may be something of a compact space, but everything else about this place is huge, especially the flavor. The minute you walk inside, you'll be hit by the scent of pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and all the tasty southern fixin's. In its five years of operation, this place has made quite a name for itself in the Richmond community.
HogsHead has an impressive menu, with a little bit of everything. If you're looking to stop in for lunch, be prepared for a little bit of a wait. But rest assured, it'll all be worth it.
Photographed above is the HogBurger, complete with just about everything you could imagine. Until trying this concoction, you probably didn't realize that onion rings and pulled pork were missing from your idea of a great burger.
The babyback ribs are prepared so well that they'll almost instantly fall off the bone. Another area where HogsHead shines is in the sauces. Prefer more vinegar based than tomato? You'll be able to find the perfect sauce for that.
As mentioned before, the portions here are quite generous. But that means any unfinished plates can easily be boxed up and enjoyed for later. Photographed above is the delicious Cuban Hog.
Here we have the fried shrimp, butter beans, and collard greens, all cooked to perfection.
These fried pickle spears are the perfect accompaniment to almost any dish. Other mouthwatering sides include macaroni & cheese, scalloped potatoes, baked broccoli, sweet potato fries, and potato salad.
Eat 'til your heart's content, but remember there's a dessert menu that might just rival the barbecue. Their peanut butter pie could put you over the edge, but it's impossible to pass up. Could there be any dessert more perfectly Virginian?
