Vermont's March sugaring season features the VT Maple Open House Weekend, showcasing the maple syrup production process.
Ahhhh, March. It's the sweetest month of the year in Vermont. Why? It's sugaring season, of course! After all, we look forward to this time of the year much like leaf peepers anticipate fall in the Green Mountain State. Now is when the sap is flowing and turned into liquid gold, and you won't want to miss the VT Maple Open House Weekend in 2018!

The 2018 Maple Open House Weekend is March 24th and 25th.
The weekend allows visitors to see and learn about the process of making maple syrup like never before.
No matter where you are in Vermont, there will be a sugar shack near you that opens its doors to share the sweetness.
Since no two maple syrups are alike, you can learn about the process, grades and more from the sugar makers themselves.
When the smoke is flying, you know what's inside is the sweetest thing you'll ever taste.
Each Sugarhouse has their own taps and they can range from a few to a few thousand.
The warm temperatures in Spring enables the maple trees to turn starch into sugar. The sap is made as the tree mixes ground water with the sugar and is mostly crystal clear with containing about 2% sugar.
It takes 40 gallons of sap to make each gallon of maple syrup!
The sap is then evaporated to make our world famous VT maple syrup with the sweet smell of sugar wafting in the air.
After seeing the hard work that goes into each drop of VT maple syrup, you'll never again underestimate it's value!
Some might say "That syrup was so good my tongue jumped out and slapped my brain."

The "sugar" of Sugar-on-Snow happens when the maple syrup is heated to 232 degrees and then drizzled on top of snow to eat like a taffy.
