People Drive From All Over Utah To Try The Pickle Pie At SunGlow Restaurant and Motel

SunGlow Restaurant and Motel in Bicknell, Utah, is famous for its unique pickle pie, attracting visitors from all over the state.

Sure, pie has long been a Thanksgiving dessert, but in recent years it’s been breaking into dining rooms of the everyday. And much like its transformation into a dessert that is no longer just for Thanksgiving, pie is no longer just a vessel for fruit (or, regrettably, meat). That’s right: pickle pie is a thing that exists, at least in Utah.

The SunGlow Restaurant and Motel is located in Bicknell, Utah, which has a population of around 300 people.

Despite this town being extremely small, SunGlow attracts people from all over the state, and their pickle pie is largely to thank.

The pie was invented by Cula Ekker, “Wayne County’s Pie Queen” and owner of SunGlow.

Usually pickles are associated with being sour, but this pickle pie is actually quite sweet.

Sweet pickles are ground up and mixed with cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon extract, which blend together for a spicy, tangy flavor to complement the mince-pie texture.

At first glance, it looks like any other pie, but the green shines through once it's cut.

While the pickle flavor may be subtly mixed with other flavors, visitors will have no trouble remembering exactly what they’re eating once they see that distinct color.

The pickle pie is a bestseller at SunGlow, with visitors turning into repeat customers after one slice.

It was featured in The Salt Lake Tribune and has been talked about nonstop since its inception.

If you can’t quite commit, SunGlow offers a pie sampler with four different creative pies dreamed up by Cula Ekker.

They come in half-slices and include oatmeal pie, buttermilk pie, pinto bean pie, and, of course, pickle pie.

SunGlow Restaurant and Motel is located at 91 East Main Street in Bicknell, Utah. When road-weary but still craving a little bit of adventure (read: pie), this is the perfect place to stop for the night. Sweet (and sour) dreams!
