Take A Step Back In Time At The Menger Bar, Texas’ Oldest Continuously Operating Saloon

The Menger Bar in San Antonio, located inside the historic Menger Hotel, is the oldest continuously operating saloon in Texas and a site of significant historical events.

Little bits and pieces of history are scattered all across Texas, including at one of the most iconic hotels in San Antonio. Hidden inside the Menger Hotel is the Menger Bar, the oldest continuously operating saloon in the state. Sit back, have a drink, and let yourself be whisked back to the days when Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders in this very bar.

Located inside the historic Menger Hotel, the Menger Bar was established in 1859. That makes it San Antonio's oldest continuously operating saloon!

Upon walking in, take a few seconds to admire the scenery. The bar is an exact replica of a pub in London's House of Lords - how neat is that?!

Only adding to the history, Teddy Roosevelt even recruited his Rough Riders in this very bar. Shown here is a painting that depicts the entire cavalry.

It's also the site of more cattle deals than anywhere else in Texas. This place truly has a lot going for it!

The bar itself is incredibly elegant and always stocked with a wide selection of drinks. No matter what you like to sip on, rest assured it's probably available.

You can't visit the Menger Bar without taking a look at the Rough Riders display. History buff or not, everyone can appreciate this amazing little slice of history.

Bar hours are 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 11 a.m. until 12 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

Address: 204 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205.
