This North Texas Ice Cream Shop Has 100 Flavors in an 1876 Building That Still Has the Original Soda Fountain Vibe

Even though I wasn't alive in the 1950s, I still get nostalgic when I see photos of retro diners and girls in poodle skirts dancing the night away at a sock hop. No decade is perfect, but the ‘50s are often portrayed as an idyllic time when the simple things in life, such as going out for ice cream on a Friday night, mattered most. Beth Marie’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream is a North Texas ice cream shop on a mission to preserve that charm of the retro age. With several locations in the area, this nostalgic ice cream parlor in Texas boasts a vintage atmosphere that feels like a scene from Grease. 

Stepping inside Beth Marie’s, especially the original location in Denton, is an instant throwback. You’ll find it in Denton's historic town square, housed in a historic building that dates to 1876. With black-and-white checkered floors, a chalkboard menu, and a beautiful wooden counter adorned with stained glass accents, it’s a replica of a 1950s soda fountain. 

A fun atmosphere is great, but it doesn’t mean much if the ice cream pales in comparison. Luckily, that is not the case here. The first thing you’ll notice is that the menu is huge. There are over 100 permanent flavors, as well as rotating seasonal offerings. Do you prefer classic flavors like chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla? Or are you in the mood for a decadent scoop of Peanut Butter Fudge, Dulce de Leche, or Banana Cream Pie? Fruity ice cream fans will love Blueberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Limeade Sherbet, and Really Raspberry, especially on a hot day. 

If you think it’s hard to keep quality up with so many flavors, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Each flavor at Beth Marie’s is mixed and blended by hand, and the shop takes pride in using only the highest-quality ingredients. You can enjoy your ice cream in a cup, cone, as a malt, milkshake, or on a sundae or banana split. Take-home pints and quarts are also available. Other menu items include cream sodas, phosphates, and floats. If you prefer a dessert that isn’t ice cream-adjacent, try one of Beth Marie’s famous hot cobblers.
