The Oldest Restaurant In Tennessee Has Stood The Test Of Time
If you've been in Nashville for a hot second, chances are you've heard of Varallo's. This sweet spot is nestled downtown, and proffers chili "three ways" and a home-cooked meal that's sure to make your belly happy. With five generations of history stretching back to 1907, this truly is a special place to Tennessee. The original location was on Church Street and Eighth, but you can find the continuation of this family restaurant on 4th Avenue. Have you been here?
Established in 1907 in what was then a Nashville culture slammed with Italian eateries, Vallaro's was the one that rose above the rest. Their location in downtown Nashville has also contributed to their ability to witness a massive amount of 20th century history.
You'll find a clean, clear-cut menu and a friendly face when you walk in the door. It's obvious that customers are the main draw here, giving this sweet little spot an edge over their competition.
Foodie competition, that is. We're not sure who else could beat their longstanding record as the oldest restaurant in Tennessee. It would be REALLY tough, let me tell you.
Keeping it personal, the bottom of the menu reads, "Thoughts from the Bottom of a Chili Bowl." These are little thoughts and sayings that are changed daily. The idea was originally thought up by Frank Varallo.
As you can tell, they've been at it a loooong time - number one never gets old for Varallo's, and we're so glad about it. They celebrate 109 years in 2016!
Plus, the restaurant loves to give back. Buy a Varallo's Chili print (made by Hatch Show Print), and a percentage of the proceeds go to Second Harvest Food Bank.
It's a neat thing to see a restaurant that stays solidly in the family and brings such joy to our very own Music City.
