Here in Tennessee, we pride ourselves on our good, authentic, American food, and it's certainly no exception when it comes to our burgers. There is one restaurant in Knoxville that stands out from the rest. This old-school diner will remind you what a burger should taste like. Sure, that's a lot of hype, but it's well earned. Here's why Litton's Market, Restaurant, and Bakery is a must-visit for anyone who finds themselves near Knoxville.
Litton's has been serving the Knoxville community for over 70 years. They first opened as a full-service market, offering groceries, hardware, and farm supplies. They even had a full-service gas station! Today, they're known for their specialty -- burgers.
Litton's didn't start serving burgers until a deli counter was added to the store in the early '60s. Word quickly spread about their incredible burgers, and they've been making them ever since.
Today, Litton's still thrives on the glory of the old-time diner. The restaurant is decked out with nostalgia-inducing pictures and memorabilia that will make you feel right at home.
Looking for a burger to try? We recommend the Litton Thunder Road. It comes piled high with pimento cheese, grilled onions, and whole jalapenos. Please, don't try to eat this in one bite, even though you'll be tempted.
If you can manage to find room, you'll definitely want to get dessert to follow up your burger. The restaurant's bakers are up early six days a week to make the most delicious looking deserts you've ever seen.
Litton's even offers their wonderful desserts to-go. You can pre-order their cakes on their website as well. That's what we call service!
Still need convincing? Former University of Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning has said that he likes to go to Litton's when he is in Knoxville. If you don't run into him, you can still get a slice of this Tennessee Vols Orange cake instead.
