This Nashville Restaurant Serves The Most Authentic Hot Chicken You’ll Ever Taste

Nashville's name has become iconic for its fabulous hot chicken. Sure, we have the Grand Ole Opry and the Bluebird Cafe, of course we're the Athens of the South and home to Vanderbilt University, but hey. It's the hot chicken that keeps us relevant, and the hot chicken that keeps the tourists coming. Take a look at one of our favorite places in the city, Prince's Hot Chicken, for a look behind the curtain at a Tennessee icon.

There is an old legend about Prince's Hot Chicken. It's dug deep in the history of Music City, a story heralded by the Great Depression and written by the wrath of a woman scorned.

No one knows what Thorton Prince did to upset his lover - maybe he came home too late, smelling of perfume. Maybe there was a smudge of lipstick on his collar. It could have been any number of things, but his woman at home decided to get revenge exactly the same way she should have been wooing the man - through his stomach.

She covered his hot chicken with cayenne pepper, waiting for his mouth to water and spit with fire. But...he loved it. And Nashville's hot chicken legend was born.

Ms. Andre Prince Jeffries is the great niece of the well-known Thorton Prince, and she is stilling working in the family business, serving up some fabulous hot chicken to hungry Nashvillians all week long. What a neat legacy!

Located at 123 Ewing Drive, Prince's Hot Chicken is the original hot chicken legend and the best deep fried bird you can try in the city. You can choose from mild to ultra hot, but keep in mind - you should know your limit. Because once you reach your edge? You'll never forget it.

What a neat story! Continue your exploration of the city with these eleven things that will always make a Tennessean think of home.
