Take A Drive To The Country To Dine At This Rural Restaurant In South Dakota

Hey, South Dakota! Hungry? Good - because I've found a downright wonderful place that's totally worth driving out for from wherever you are in this little corner of the world. Keystone, South Dakota is a little bit southwest of Rapid City - just about a half hour or so - and it's completely worth it. And, if you're not in Rapid City, no worries - it'll be worth it no matter where you are. I promise! This little nosh spot isn't just old-school; it's also home to some of the biggest steaks in South Dakota. Some of these babies require at least half a tray to contain 'em!

Red Garter Saloon originally opened in the early 1970s, though it truly does feel like it opened in the 1870s instead (in the best of ways).

In 1972, the joint survived a catastrophic, rare flooding event... only to burn down in the horrific fire of 2003.

But it's alright: this wonderful little staple of South Dakota's small-town landscape built back better than ever, and now, it's an absolute must-do.

You could be in Rapid City, or you could be way up in Webster - either way, it's worth a day trip to come out and try it.

And when I say the steaks here can be big... I mean they can be BIG.

Some of the larger cuts take up a whole plate, or better still, almost a whole tray! Yum.

Seasoned and grilled to perfection, these steaks are among the best in the state, and I have no doubt you'll find this little spot worthy of traveling for.

Of course, I'm the kind of person who will drive for three hours just to get lunch, but perhaps that's just me. I suspect you might be a lot like me, though, since you're here reading this (and probably salivating at the deliciousness on your screen... because same).

The interior decor is busy but somehow, it works perfectly.

The overall vibe of this place is like a collision between the wild, wild west and old-school charm, and it compliments the meals nicely.

...and if steak and chops aren't quite your thing, you could always try a giant chicken-fried steak the size of your plate.

But don't forget to leave room for the sides (and dessert). The entire meal is part of the experience, and I can't recommend bringing a hungry belly enough.

So, come on out to the countryside and enjoy some of the biggest steaks in South Dakota at this old-school saloon.
