Plan An October Visit To Tavern On Main, Rhode Island’s Most Haunted Restaurant
Tavern on Main in Rhode Island is a historic tavern known for its delicious food, friendly service, and resident ghosts.
Talk about a building with staying power. Rhode Island's Tavern on Main is a beloved local gem that sits in a building that dates all the way back to the early 1700s. And while it has served several other purposes in the last couple of centuries, we're thrilled that it is once again being used as it was originally intended.
If it's been a while since you've enjoyed a hot meal or a cold beverage at this charming tavern, this is a fantastic time of year to go. We're pretty sure the resident ghost would agree.
The original Tavern on Main was built in the early 1700s in Chepachet.
Once a 2.5 story colonial dwelling, it was originally known as the Stage Coach Tavern.
Needless to say, this place is brimming with local history.
During one of the most controversial political
upheavals in Rhode Island's history, when incumbent governor Thomas Dorr tried to assume his rightful place, and the current governor refused to back down. During the shuffle, bullets flew through the tavern door.
Of course, these days, things are far more peaceful (and delicious) here at the tavern.
The menu has lots of tasty seafood options, steaks, pastas, and salads.
The cocktails here are second to none -- and in some cases, you can even get them to-go.
Mixed drinks are now allowed with takeout orders, and we hope that never changes.
This place is pretty much perfect... other than its restless ghost.
Alice, as she is known, will make herself appear to both patrons and staff alike when she feels like it. You have a much better chance of seeing her if you sit here, at her table.
While Alice is the star of the show here, she's far from the only spirit that is said to be sticking around.
Paranormal investigators have recorded EVPs of children giggling, and quite a few guests (including children) have seen and talked to the spirit of a 10-year-old boy. A 15-year-old boy once caught the apparition of a man getting up from a table on film.
Guests are so anxious to dine with ghosts that Tavern on Main is always a popular place to be this time of year.
But even if you're not a believer in ghosts, you'll still love the friendly service, historic ambiance, and delicious food.
