Great Northern BBQ Co. in Providence, Rhode Island, offers unique and delicious BBQ that started as a food truck and is now a local favorite.
Rhode Island isn't exactly well-known for its BBQ, but that doesn't mean you won't have options when it comes to delicious grilled and smoked meats. In fact, New England Today's travel section recently named one local gem as the best BBQ in the Ocean State. If you have yet to try the delicious delicacies at Great Northern BBQ Co., you're really missing out.
Although Great Northern BBQ Co. now has a storefront location in Providence, it started as a food truck in 2016.
And you'll still see the GNBBQ Trolley parked outside The Point Tavern 7 days a week.
The idea was simple: to bring great tasting BBQ to Rhode Island.
And luckily, the food was an instant hit.
Jimmy James Caruso is the chef behind all these marvelous creations, and he's slowly but surely creating a a local cuisine with a spice profile unlike any other.
But even though this isn't exactly like the Southern style BBQ, rest assured, it tastes amazing (and authentic).
The traditions of BBQ are kept alive here, although Caruso definitely gets creative with them.
This is the Wood Fired Filet, a grilled filet mignon that's absolutely incredible.
Monday is Burger Monday here, and each week a new variety is released.
The menu also includes plenty of chicken, brisket, and even a 46-ounce tomahawk steak that is butter-aged for 45 days.
Great Northern BBQ Co.'s brick and mortar location has a full bar, daily specials, and a ton of character.
It's open Monday through Saturday at 5 p.m. and is open until 1 a.m. on the weekends.
