The Historic Columbia River Highway is a treasure, and this restaurant is nestled on it, right on the banks of the Columbia River. Located 20 miles to the east of Portland, Tad's Chicken 'n Dumplings is a scenic roadhouse escape that is still using its original recipes from the 1940s.
Tad's Chicken 'n Dumplins was started by Tad Williams in late 1920s in Troutdale, when prohibition was in effect.
The business moved into its current location in the 1940s, making it both one of the first and one of the last roadhouses on the Historic Columbia River Highway.
The location is one captivating feature about the classic roadhouse. Located right on the Sandy River, there is a view from pretty much anywhere you sit.
In warmer months, the outdoor covered patio is lovely.
But in the winter, you can find a cozy seat next to the fireplace in the dining room and settle in for some great comfort food classics.
Chicken 'n dumplings are undoubtedly a specialty here, but there are so many other favorites to choose from, too.
