If you find yourself in downtown Oklahoma City and want to experience one of the city's best restaurants, make a reservation at Nonesuch, located at 803 N. Hudson Ave. Nonesuch is the sole restaurant in the Id Est hospitality group, known for its James Beard and Michelin-rated eateries, that's located outside of Colorado. The other restaurants in this group are well-known and highly regarded in Denver and Boulder, with two having even earned Michelin stars. Founders Erika and Kelly Whitaker were even awarded the James Beard Award for Best Restaurateur in 2024. Oklahomans are incredibly lucky to have one of their restaurants within their reach in OKC.

Nonesuch first opened in 2017 under the ownership of Tulsa native and restauranteur Todd Woodruff and was named Best New Restaurant in America by Bon Appetit magazine the following year. After several years under his management, he sold the restaurant to the Whitakers earlier this year so he could focus on other projects. It continues to be top-notch under the new owners; the transition was seamless.

The format of Nonesuch is that it's a tasting menu-focused restaurant. It was one of the first restaurants in the city to adopt this concept, and others have since followed suit. The angle Nonesuch chose to take on this idea was to focus on the broad diversity of cultures and ideas present in the great state of Oklahoma, and this is evident in all of the creative dishes served there.

Guests can choose from a four-component prix-fixe menu or order à la carte. A typical daily menu might begin with a salad, soup, or grilled oysters, followed by a main course of fish, poultry, pork, or chicken-fried steak. Sides include a fermented option — such as excellent kimchi — as well as a vegetable, rice, or bread. A refreshing dessert will follow.

This sample menu may sound simple and perhaps even overly so — but that's the draw of Nonesuch. Each of the above dishes is well thought-out and includes flavor profiles that will wow each diner while also helping them feel a deep connection to local, Oklahoma City roots. It's also a wonderful Oklahoma dining experience, perfect for a date night or special occasion.

Recently, the Whitakers welcomed Chef Brian Baxter for a two-month residency. Baxter was the executive chef at popular and well-rated The Catbird Seat in Nashville for the past four years and has proven to be an excellent transitional team player for the Id Est Hospitality Group changeover.

Today, the reins at Nonesuch have been fully returned to OKC Executive Chef Garrett Hare. Hare, an OKC local, started at the restaurant in 2021 after attending culinary school at The Culinary Center in New York City and after working at several of Denver's best restaurants. His creativity and enthusiasm are clear to all who dine at Nonesuch - you'll see it and taste it in every bite.

No matter who is leading the kitchen at Nonesuch, you can expect a spectacular meal. This restaurant is dedicated to sustainability, thoughtful ingredient sourcing, local flavors, warm hospitality, a hip vibe, and top-notch service. You're sure to get a memorable meal when dining at Nonesuch, and this is a restaurant you'll be telling your friends about for years to come. Reservations are recommended due to the small size of this spot, but you should be able to get a table easily if you plan a few days in advance. Have a great visit — and enjoy the exceptional cuisine at Nonesuch in Oklahoma City!
