Enjoy A Breakfast Of Champions At This Delicious Diner In Ohio
My husband and I met at Xavier University, a liberal arts school located just a few miles north of Cincinnati. I quickly became familiar with the neighborhoods in and around Xavier, as well as the areas around our crosstown rival. (Just don't ask me to eat at Skyline...) We spent many late nights at area coffee shops, and many late mornings doing brunch. One of our breakfast spots wasn't unique to us; in fact, this delicious diner is an institution in Cincinnati, Ohio! Open since 1941, Sugar n' Spice is known around town for its scrumptious breakfasts, most notably, wispy-thin pancakes and impossibly fluffy omelettes.
If this looks like the perfect breakfast to you, you're not alone. There's a restaurant in Ohio that's been serving up this picture-perfect breakfast of champions since 1941, gaining a loyal following of lifelong customers along the way.
This delicious dining spot is Sugar n' Spice, a mainstay in Cincinnati, Ohio, since 1941.
In addition to the original location in Reading, there are two more Sugar n' Spice locations in Greater Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine and Blue Ash. As an alumna of Xavier University, the Reading location holds a special place in my heart, and this is exactly how it looked when I was in college!
The Reading location has gotten a makeover in recent years, but its inherent charm remains a comforting constant...
...as comforting as a plate of the diner's acclaimed pancakes!
Sugar n' Spice is known for their wispy thin pancakes that are almost crepe-like in structure. These plate-sized orbs are best stacked high and with a generous pour of syrup and smear of butter... and blueberries. This diner uses fresh, impossibly giant berries that translates into tons of berry deliciousness in each bite.
If you're more of a savory breakfast person, Sugar n' Spice's omelettes have taken on cult status. Just like their sweet counterpart, the omelettes from this Ohio restaurant are super fluffy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
And while you can certainly order carry out, Sugar n' Spice is the kind of place where the location is an equally important ingredient in the overall experience. The coffee mugs are unique and fun to sip from, and picking our a rubber duck from the big bin at the restaurant is so much fun!
Because in addition to leaving with a very happy belly, every customer at Sugar n' Spice gets a delightful little duck souvenir. As the story goes, one of the diner's earliest owners would keep a bucket of toys out for kids, and it turned out that little kids and adults enjoyed the act of picking out a post-meal toy. By chance, a small rubber duck happened into the toy bin, and a tradition was born!
Have you had breakfast at this scrumptious restaurant in Ohio before? While there are now three Sugar n' Spice restaurants in the Queen City, I'm partial to the original Reading location, because, #memories.
