It's easy to boast about the beauty of NC Wine Country and our production of amazing wine. North Carolina is home to America's first grape and today grows every major type of grape. If you like the vino you're in luck because North Carolina has over 400 vineyards and 100 wineries. There are several gorgeous wineries and vineyards that make for a perfect weekend trip starting with these ten.

1. Childress Vineyards, Lexington

While you might associate Richard Childress with NASCAR, it's time to associate him with fine-wine. Fulfilling a lifetime dream, he opened Chlidress Vineyards in Lexington in 2004. Today, Childress Vineyards features 27 acres of vineyards and 11 varieties. Visitors can go on general or group tours. Tastings occur daily. You can choose the cellar select tasting for $12 a person for off-dry wines. Or treat your palette to the barrel deluxe tasting for $15 a person to try dry and full bodied wines. Dine at the Bistro and stay at nearby accommodations.

2. Raffaldini Vineyard & Winery, Ronda

The Raffaldini's family love of food and wine dates back to 1348 in the Italian town of Mantua. Today, you can enjoy the age-old tradition of handcrafted Italian wine. The vineyard is open Wednesday-Saturday. Take a vineyard tour for just $5 a person. After, enjoy a tasting of each wine for just $7 a person. The vineyard is so gorgeous it's often hosting events like weddings. Come see the beauty of Swan Creek and Raffaldini for yourself.

3. Shelton Vineyards, Dobson

Shelton Vineyards is located in the heart of Yadkin Valley. The climate here is ideal for producing fine wine and rivals that of the best wine growing regions in Europe. Shelton grows almost every grape variety and the vineyard is one of the largest on the East Coast. Tours and tastings are offered daily. The vineyard is open each day of the year besides holidays. The regular tour and tasting is offered every half hour for $5 a person. With sweeping mountain views all around, Shelton Vineyards is absolutely beautiful. Take it all in with a few glasses of wine then finish your day with a meal at the delicious Harvest Grill.

4. RayLen Vineyards, Mocksville

This former dairy farm turned vineyard has quickly become a North Carolina favorite. The drive up the road to the vineyard is very romantic and you'll pass by the 35,000 grape varieties grown here. For tastings you can take a white or red flight for $6 a person or a complete a flight for $10 a person. A 20-minute tour is included with your purchase of the wine tasting. RayLen is open M-Sat. 11AM-6PM and Sunday 12-5.

5. Addison Farms Vineyard, Leicester

17 miles north of Asheville you'll find the beautiful Addison Farms Vineyard. Surrounded by 360 mountain views this is a day trip you'll want to take once the leaves change. You can visit Friday and Saturday from 12-5PM but Addison Farms hosts monthly events as well. Coming up Sept. 19-20th is the farm tour weekend. The harvest party is Oct. 10th. Addison Farms will also be at the Asheville Wine & Food Festival Aug. 22nd.

6. Silver Fork Vineyard & Winery, Morganton

Silver Fork is family owned and operated. The tasting room has breathtaking views of the South Mountains with a large patio to enjoy it all. Come enjoy tasting and tours, the farm to fork eatery, and a variety of indoor and outdoor events. The vineyard is open Wednesday-Friday 12-7 and Saturday-Sun. 12-6.

7. Treehouse Vineyards, Monroe

If you've ever wanted to try a variety of delicious wine, plus spend the weekend in a cozy treehouse then Treehouse Vineyards is right for you! It was established in 2005 on the 200-yr. old family farm. From treehouses, to horses, to award-winning Muscadine Wine, you'll love your stay here. Treehouse has an abundant amount of tastings, tours, and daily events so be sure to call ahead. Coming up soon is the 5th annual Harvest 'Grape Stomping' Festival Sept. 19th for only $5.

8. Medaloni Cellars, Lewisville

Located on two acres of rolling hills in Yadkin Valley, Medaloni Cellars is quickly making its name known in the NC wine world. Monday and Thursday tours are by appointment only. Fri-Sun you won't need an appointment for a tour or tasting. The classic tasting includes five wines while the premiere tasting includes seven. On Sunday's enjoy live music and food trucks right on the vineyard. You can even rent a cabin or a treehouse tucked away in the woods to extend your stay!

9. Stony Mountain Vineyards, Albermarle

Stony Mountain is a family owned and operated boutique winery nestled in the Uwharrie Mountains. At Stony Mountain you can't beat the wine...or THIS view! Stony Mountain offers four varieties of reds, three whites, 'fuity' wines, and a white or red muscadine. You can enjoy a wine tasting at $7 a person Tues-Sat. 10AM-6PM. You can also schedule a tour. Tasting/tour combos are just $12 a person.

10. Overmountain Vineyards, Tryon

Overmountain is a boutique winery located on 70 gorgeous acres. They grow 5 grape varieties. Make sure to check their event calendar to which tasting rooms are open. Overmountain also has weekend events featuring live music and local foods.
