One of the best things about North Carolina is that you’re never too far away from an amazing restaurant. There are plenty of casual joints that have earned the loyalty of hungry locals, but sometimes a special occasion calls for a slightly more upscale restaurant. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, a milestone, or the simple fact that you made it another week, there’s one cozy restaurant in Charlotte that’s perfect for a special occasion. Let's take a look at this elegant and unique dining experience.
Welcome to The Fig Tree Restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina. Housed in a building that dates back over 100 years, this upscale eatery has been a local favorite since it opened its doors in 2005.
The historic Lucas House decorates Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood and lovingly houses The Fig Tree Restaurant. The charming house was named after its original owners, John Paul and Alice Craft Lucas, with such rich original features as the massive fireplaces, the woodwork, and the pocket doors. And four brown turkey fig trees growing on the grounds inspired the restaurant's name. The picturesque home is right across from Independence Park, one of the first public parks in Charlotte, which was recently renovated.
With five stunning dining rooms and even more seating on the veranda and patio, this historic restaurant in North Carolina maintains its cozy atmosphere while delivering a fine-dining experience. Take note of the details when you’re here—the original woodwork and the multiple fireplaces create one of the most beautiful, cozy dining options in North Carolina.

The restaurant’s seasonal menu offers French and Italian-inspired dishes. Appetizers include a wide range of options, including roasted red and gold beets, braised pork belly, grilled octopus, and more.

Both seafood and red meats pepper the main course menu, ensuring something for everyone. Pan-roasted salmon, sauteed sea bass, and sea scallops are all some of the fan-favorites, while peppercorn-crusted elk chops, filet mignon, and pan-seared duck are just a few of the non-seafood specialties. Enjoy your meal with one of the wines from Fig Tree’s award-winning wine lists. Your server will be happy to recommend a bottle that pairs perfectly with your meal.
You can see the wine list on the restaurant's website. It's updated weekly and offers everything from exciting whites to proprietary reds, and does a spectacular job at offering wines from all over the globe. Wines by the glass are also offered.
After your meal, take a stroll through Independence Park. The 19-acre park has a one-mile loop trail that weaves through the park, and the restaurant sits in the shadows of this park, so you can walk right over. The park offers plenty of benches to rest, as well as several sports courts, a playground, a pond, and more.
