These 9 Roadside Restaurants Around New Orleans Are Worth Stopping For
Discover the top hiking trails that offer breathtaking scenic views and unique nature experiences.
How do you pick a great restaurant? Sometimes, you just need food while you are on the road and you go to the most convenient place. Luckily for people who live in the New Orleans area, though, that can often mean that you end up in an amazing place to have lunch. Let's explore.
1) Walker’s BBQ, 10828 Hayne Blvd., Little Woods
Seafood is definitely what most people think of when they visit New Orleans. But when you visit this BBQ spot in New Orleans east, you won't be able to stop thinking about meat. They have some amazingly juicy cuts with incredible home-cooked sides. You can't go wrong when you visit here.
2) Dong Phuong, 14207 Chef Menteur Hwy, Village de l’Est
Another awesome spot in New Orleans East, this Vietnamese restaurant is one of the most authentic in the entire city. They are also well known for their bakery, which makes both sweet and savory goods that will melt your tastebuds. I go absolutely crazy for their king cakes as well--super delicate dough with almond filling. Yum!
3) Mosca’s, 4137 US Hwy 90 W., Westwego
For decades now, Mosca's has been that hideaway restaurant New Orleanians keep in the back of their minds when they want a really special, old-school meal. They make everything fresh in-house, so come prepared to relax and enjoy a meal--a long one. Don't miss the shrimp Mosca, pictured here, as well as the incredible chicken wings.
4) Zydeco’s, 7010 Hwy 23, Belle Chasse
If you find yourself heading down river, make a stop at Zydeco's. It's easy to see why this place has quickly become one of the most popular in the area. I never want to miss their soft shell crab po-boys because they are always so fresh.
5) Middendorf’s Seafood, 30160 Hwy 51 S, Akers
As you are driving out of New Orleans on I-55 north, you are going to pass this treasure. It's one of the places where they have absolutely perfected the art of frying catfish. And the views off the docks are really pretty.
6) Rick’s Catfish Cabin, 78461 LA-437, Covington
As you continue north from Covington and Mandeville, you'll find this little spot. It's easy to miss--but you won't want to. Not only is the food delicious, but the people are so friendly. You'll just fall in love.
7) Salvo’s Seafood, 7742 Hwy 23, Belle Chasse
This is another beautiful spot in Belle Chasse. It's a gathering spot for locals and tourists alike just looking for a great home-cooked meal. One of my favorites here is the all-you-can-eat specials that make sure you never go home hungry.
8) Rivershack Tavern, 3449 River Rd., Jefferson
As you go explore out on River Road, take a stop here. It's got a funky, alternative kind of decor that will definitely bring a smile to your face. And the food is always on point!
9) Pam & Dales Seafood Inc, 14620 River Rd, Destrehan
This is another great little spot where you will find all the awesome comfort food you didn't even realize how badly you were missing. I love the lasagna here, which is just as awesome as the seafood and gumbo. This unassuming space is well worth a stop!
