The Desserts At This Iconic New Orleans Bakery Are Simply Legendary
Joe Gambino’s Bakery in New Orleans is a beloved local institution known for its doberge and king cakes, continuing a tradition of fresh, handmade pastries for over 70 years.
New Orleans is fortunate enough to have multiple restaurants and bakeries that have stood the test of time. From Antoine’s to Angelo Brocato’s, there are just so many places that generations of New Orleanians are lucky enough to have grown up around, and now they get to bring their kids to. This particular bakery is no exception, and is always a favorite for locals when it comes to sweet treats.
Joe Gambino’s has been around for decades.
It all started back in the 1920s when Beulah Ledner began baking out of her own kitchen in Uptown. She was a quick hit and moved her baking operation over to a new location on Claiborne, and became known as the "Doberge Queen of New Orleans."
In 1946, Beulah sold her business to Joe Gambino.
He ran the bakery under the "Beulah Ledner Bakery" name until 1949, when he decided to reopen under his own name and thus, Joe Gambino’s Bakery was born.
Gambino’s quickly expanded to multiple locations around southern Louisiana.
So you’re never too far away from a sinfully delicious sweet treat.
They continue to bake their pastries and treats fresh every day, a tradition that has continued for over 70 years.
From petit fours to specialty cakes, there’s nothing they can’t do.
And their doberge cake is made by hand using Beulah Ledner’s recipe exactly.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Their king cakes are some of the best in the city.
Made year round, and shipped just about anywhere! During Mardi Gras season, you'll typically see a long line around the storefront, these cakes are just that good!
You can find Gambino’s at 4821 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006, 8646 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806 and 3802 Johnston Suite C, Lafayette, LA 70503.
