Sure, there are times when a tiny restaurant isn't the best choice – if you have a large and rowdy group, or perhaps if you anticipate a heated argument with your significant other and want to blend into the crowd. For all the other times, though, small restaurants often offer up a lot of heart and flavor that bigger, more corporatized establishments just can't. These 6 small restaurants are some of our favorites in New Hampshire.
1. Alley Cat Pizzeria, Manchester
There are only a few seats in Manchester's Alley Cat Pizzeria, but it's worth fighting for one to have a spot to sit down and eat their perfectly chewy and flavorful pizza when it's at its hottest and freshest. Find it at 486 Chestnut Street, Manchester, NH.
2. Pauly's Pockets, Durham
This counter-service spot has only a few seats, but it's worth trying to nab one to enjoy a delightful falafel wrap. Find it at 49 Main Street Durham, New Hampshire.
3. George's Diner, Meredith
George's doesn't have a ton of seating, but it's worth braving the lines at busy times for their amazing homestyle diner food. Find it at 10 Plymouth St, Meredith, NH 03253.
4. Gilley's Diner, Portsmouth
Gilley's is tiny and always packed, but it's worth braving the crowd for their amazing hamburgers and hotdogs. Find it at 175 Fleet St Portsmouth, NH 03801.
5. Papa Joe's Humble Kitchen, Milford
Papa Joe's is indeed humble – they only have four tables inside – but the food is comforting, delicious, and fresh. Find it at 237 South St, Ste 1, Milford, NH 03055.
6. California Burritos, Nashua
This spot doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's absolutely packed with flavor and fun. The food here is authentic, spicy, and delicious – it's a far cry from the chain Mexican food you'll find in much of the state. Check it out at 101 Factory St, Nashua, NH 03060.
