The bakery opened a few years ago when owner (and baker) Silvia Allen decided she wanted to bring a taste of Germany to Montana.

Silvia grew up watching her mother and her Oma (grandmother) cooking and baking bread. By the time she was 10, she knew she wanted to continue the family tradition.

Siliva moved to the United States when she was 22, but she still enjoys visiting Germany when she can.

When she found it challenging to get a traditional job in the Missoula area (she's a single mom to a special needs child and overly qualified as a child psychologist), she decided to pursue her dream of opening a bakery.

Everything at The Bretzel Factory is made from scratch.

They don't believe in packaged foods here. These delicacies are simple, flavorful, and absolutely addictive.

The selection here varies, but you'll always find the shelves stocked with pastries, cakes, and traditional German breads.

They also sell the most mouthwatering original German pretzels.

The bakery started by selling at local farmers markets, where you'll still see them today.

Silvia's story is an incredibly inspiring one. In 2016, when she was starting out, her workday began at 12:30 a.m. when she'd turn on the ovens and work a paper route, not to mention balancing driving a school bus and full-time solo parenting with all the challenges of business ownership. This bakery is a true success story.

The Bretzel Factory is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
