People Will Drive From All Over Montana To Burgertown Dairy Freeze, For The Nostalgia Alone

Burgertown Dairy Freeze in Bigfork, Montana, is a popular summer destination known for its delicious hand-pattied burgers and iconic shakes.

Every summer, thousands of Montanans and out-of-state visitors flock to Flathead Lake and the surrounding towns. While the area makes a fantastic year-round destination, it certainly shines its brightest in the summertime. And coincidentally, that's when you can sink your teeth into a juicy burger at Burgertown Dairy Freeze in Bigfork.

You'll find Burgertown right on Montana Highway 35, just outside of the picturesque village of Bigfork.

When you're on your way into our out of town, you really can't miss it.

Burgertown originally opened in 1970, a project of Lonny Hanson when he was just 26 years old.

At the time, the building (which was moved over from Condon) was a tiny shack without the indoor space or deck it has today.

Over the years, the restaurant has evolved and grown.

The burger joint celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020, and it's still going strong.

While there have been a lot of changes to this place over the years, the food has remained consistently simple and consistently delicious.

They aren't trying to re-invent the wheel here, and that's just the way everyone seems to like it.

But while they may be simple, the burgers here are absolutely unreal.

The meat is fresh, and every burger is hand-pattied. This can lead to longer wait times during peak hours, but ask anyone in line and they'll tell you it's worth it.

Pair your burger with some perfectly crispy fries or an order of onion rings and your beverage of choice.

The shakes here are almost as iconic as the burgers.

Burgertown is only open in the summer, so you'll have a limited amount of time to get your fix.

This just gives you an excuse to spend plenty of time enjoying Bigfork and Flathead Lake before fall.

Have you ever been to Burgertown? What's your favorite place to get a burger in Montana?
