Don't let the unassuming exterior of Casper's in Springfield fool you. When you walk inside, you'll discover a...
Vibrant restaurant that's filled with personality, a menu brimming with delicious dishes, and a rich history. That's right. Casper's, which opened in 1909, holds the title of the oldest diner on Route 66.
And, you just might catch sight of that adorable little fella, Casper the Friendly the Ghost, who shares his name with the offbeat eatery. (However, Casper's the diner is older than Casper the Friendly Ghost, who made his first American appearance in 1939.)
Drink in the quirky ambiance. Then, check out the menu that boasts all of the standard, delicious diner fare, including...
Casper's famous chili, which you can order in a bowl. Or, have that helping of chili on a chili cheeseburger, on a chili dog, or on a hearty helping of chili cheese fries.
Add a scrumptious side - fries, homemade onion rings, or fried pickles - to your burger, ham and cheese sandwich, or chicken sandwich.
Save some room for dessert, too, like a slice of homemade upside down pineapple cake or a piece of homemade pie.
Treat yourself to a serving of nostalgia at Casper's, open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Casper's is located at 601 W. Walnut St., Springfield, MO 65806.
