This Charming Windmill In Missouri Is Actually A Restaurant And You’ll Want To Visit
Bevo Mill, a historic landmark in St. Louis, was established by the Busch family in 1917 and has recently found new owners.
In 1850, over half of St. Louis residents were of German descent. During this boom in German immigration, St. Louis' most famous family arrived to start their empire. Adolphus Busch came to St. Louis with his brothers in 1857 and married Lilly Anheuser in 1861. With his father-in law, Eberhard Anheuser, Busch founded the Anheuser-Busch brewing company in 1879. Adolphus' son, August Busch Sr., took over the company after his father's death in 1913. Busch Sr. decided that he needed a place to stop and rest on his 15 mile journey home from the brewery. So, in 1917 the Bevo Mill was erected.
Das Bevo - St. Louis
The Bevo Mill is a St. Louis landmark in the diverse south St. Louis neighborhood of Bevo, named after the establishment.
Recently, new owners have transformed the old restaurant into an authentic beer hall just like Busch Sr. had intended for the space.
Busch Sr. wanted to recreate a German beer hall where people would come for dinner, drinks, and dancing. The Bevo Mill was named after a malt beverage that was produced at Anheuser-Busch at the time.
Renamed Das Bevo, the new owners wanted to give a nod to the building's German heritage. The new Bevo officially opened May 7th. Now you can stop by for a stein of local brew any day of the week!
While the building needed a full renovation, the owners were sure to restore all of Bevo's original charm.
Das Bevo serves a smaller menu during the week featuring German staples like schnitzel and pretzels with mustard. However, the menu hasnt been locked in yet so be sure to let them know what you enjoyed during your visit!
Das Bevo also offers an awesome Sunday Brunch. Right now, due to high demand they are not accepting reservations so get there early for a table!
Da Bevo is also available as an event space for weddings or parties. Many brides over the decades have had their weddings at the Bevo Mill and luckily that tradition can continue.
So if you're looking to get in touch with your German Heritage or you just enjoy a little history with your dinner, Das Bevo is the place to be in St. Louis.
Das Bevo is open everyday and stays open till 1 A.M. on Fridays and Saturdays. Find Das Bevo at 4749 Gravois Ave., St. Louis. For more information about the menu and hours visit their website here.
