The Biscuit Capital Of The World Is Right Here In Mississippi
When craving a taste of the South, there’s no better place to get your fill than Natchez. The charming river city boasts a rich history and incredible architecture, but those aren’t its only claims to fame. Turns out, Natchez is the biscuit capital of the world! Worthy of the distinction, the city’s restaurants serve up biscuits that are sure to please even the toughest of southern grandmas. Take a look:
Natchez is most known for the stately antebellum mansions that fill it.
And it's no stranger to being revered for its charm - just a couple of years ago, USA Today named it one of the nation's "best historic small towns." However, of all its distinctions, "the biscuit capital of the world" is likely the most prized.
The city’s reputation as the “biscuit capital of the world” was made official in 2008. Obtaining the title was no easy feat – the process took three years.
Finding biscuits in the biscuit capital, on the other hand, couldn’t be easier. They’re served in restaurants, B&Bs, and inns all over town, including the Carriage House Restaurant.
A Natchez favorite since the 1930s, Carriage House Restaurant is a hot spot for biscuits.
The famous biscuits come several ways, including buttered with jelly on the side. They're also served split, toasted, and topped with pimento cheese or shrimp remoulade.
Amazing biscuits and a delectable southern fare aren’t the only perks of Carriage House Restaurant. The eatery is located on the grounds of Stanton Hall and offers a great view of the historic home.
You can do more than view the home from afar, though. Stanton Hall is open daily for tours.
Biscuits and Blues is another can’t-miss biscuit spot in Natchez.
Though the eatery serves a slew of southern favorites, including gumbo, po’ boys, and BBQ, it’s the biscuits that diners can’t seem to get enough of.
Chef Regina Charboneau was the one who really got the ball rolling on Natchez being named the world’s biscuit capital, and not surprisingly, she whips up some of the city’s best biscuits at her eatery Regina’s Kitchen.
The eatery hosts a Biscuits and Brunch Class several times a month, where participants can not only fill up on biscuits...
...but learn how to make them, too.
