It’s housed in an unremarkable building off the beaten path, yet diners still make the trek to Sonny’s Smokehouse. Why? Well, that’s very simple. It serves up some of the best BBQ in the state.

For nearly two decades, BBQ enthusiasts have been making the journey to Sonny’s Smokehouse in the tiny town of Ackerman.

“Journey” is a fitting word for the trek to the eatery. Not only is it in a small town, but it can be somewhat tricky to find (i.e. a GPS won’t lead you straight to it).

However, any effort exerted is worth it. The BBQ at Sonny’s is downright delicious!

The secret to the eatery’s success is no secret. Everything on the menu is made by hand, from scratch. What’s more, all the meats are cooked using hickory and an old-school smoker.

The top-sellers at Sonny’s are the certified Black Angus steaks, which are juicy, yet perfectly crisp.

Other BBQ classics, like pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, can also be found on the menu – and that’s in addition to sandwiches, sides, shrimp, stuffed potatoes, specials, and desserts.

An obscure locale and tasty BBQ isn’t all Sonny’s Smokehouse is known for, though. Patrons also rave about the great service, hearty portions, and reasonable prices.

Skimping on the frills and not much else, Sonny’s is a hidden gem that’s worth seeking out!
