The Slugburger From The White Trolley Café In Mississippi Is So Good That The Recipe Hasn’t Changed Since 1947

White Trolley Café in Corinth is famous for its unchanged slugburger recipe since 1947.

If ever there were a restaurant that embodied the mantra, "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it," it’s White Trolley Café! A landmark eatery, it’s known far and wide for its famous slugburgers, which are so good, the recipe hasn’t changed since 1947.

Like a beacon for hungry drivers, White Trolley Café is situated alongside Highway 72 in Corinth.

It’s most known for its “world famous slugburgers” – something that’s made clear before diners even enter the café.

Don’t be alarmed, though. Slugburgers don’t contain any slugs. Instead, the tasty patties are made of a mix of soybeans and meat.

So, why the mollusk-inspired moniker? It came from the slang term for nickel because that’s how much slugburgers used to cost.

They’re not much more today. (You can get one at White Trolley Café for just 99¢!)

And while the price of slugburgers has changed, the taste hasn’t. White Trolley Café whips up its slugburgers the same way it has since 1947.

That’s not to say the café hasn’t experienced any changes over the years. For starters, it’s expanded its menu to include beef burgers, fries, hot dogs, sandwiches, and other quick eats.

Also, it was initially housed in an old streetcar, which was later replaced with the current brick structure. It’s retained its streetcar vibe, though, including limited space, which means a wait is likely.

From a small roadside stop to one of Food Network’s “top places to eat,” White Trolley Café has definitely achieved slug-cess! (Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves.)
