Discover ten neighborhood restaurants in Mississippi known for their hometown flair and authentic southern cooking.

"Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came." Okay, so that may be a line from the Cheers’ theme song, but it also applies to neighborhood restaurants. Usually places only the locals know about, these restaurants are known for their hometown flair and authentic southern cooking. So, the next time you’re craving just that, head to one of these amazing Mississippi restaurants.

1. Bully’s Restaurant (3118 Livingston Rd., Jackson)

A staple in the west Jackson community for decades, Bully’s is known for serving the freshest home style vegetables, mouthwatering catfish, and chicken so tender, it falls right off the bone. Oh, and it’s one of the only places around where you can get an oxtail entrée.

2. Old Trace Grill (719 Veterans Memorial Dr., Kosciusko)

Please note, Old Trace Grill has permanently closed.

Deemed a "quintessential mom and pop operation," good food is a given at the Old Trace Grill, where you’ll find a variety of sandwiches and po’boys, steaks, and made-from-scratch tamales. Want to try a little bit of everything? Then head to the buffet where you’ll find an array of home-cooked favorites.

3. Farmstead (142 S. McCrary Rd., Columbus)

Please note, Farmstead has permanently closed.

For an authentic Mississippi dining experience, you’ll definitely want to head to this Columbus gem. Farmstead’s fare includes an array of local favorites served with "all the southern hospitality you can stand."

4. Catfish Cabin (575 N. Gaines Hwy., Boyle)

Stop at this family owned restaurant for everything from hamburgers and po’ boys to seafood platters and pasta entrees.

In business for nearly a century, this café’s hometown feel can’t be denied. Also undeniable is the café’s reputation for delicious coneys and hand-battered curly fries.

6. Pea-Soup's Lott-A-Freeze (809 Hwy. 82 W., Indianola)

When it comes to this restaurant, all you need to know are the two house specialties - homemade ranch dressing and chicken salad with celery and grapes. And if you have room, you can’t go wrong with the chocolate malt or sundae.

7. The Crystal Grill (423 Carrollton Ave., Greenwood)

Even though this Greenwood landmark is now a 250-seat restaurant, you’ll feel right at home once you take a seat in one of the many small dining rooms and look over the menu full of home cooked dishes. And since dessert is included in the price of your meal, you may as well try some. You can’t go wrong with the Crystal Grill’s coconut and chocolate pie, which are piled "mile high" with meringue.

8. Central Service Grill (101 E. Roane Ave., Eupora)

Visit this former Ford dealership and you’ll find mouthwatering food in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere. The building’s rooftop still includes the original retro letters, the parts department now serves as the dining room, and the garage area is now the kitchen, which is where all the aforementioned mouthwatering food is made. Barbecue ribs, brisket and pulled pork, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, po’ boys, shrimp, salads, and steaks are just a few things you’ll find on the menu.

9. Main Street Café (119 E. Main St., Collins)

Eat to your heart’s content at this café, where you’ll find a delicious buffet overflowing with home cooked southern classics as well as a menu full of sandwiches, hamburgers, and salads.
