The best restaurants aren't just found in cities. In fact, there's a wonderful restaurant filled with history, tradition, and delicious cuisine hiding out in the countryside. Set on an idyllic 600 acres, Salem Cross Inn is a charming restaurant housed in an 18th-century farmhouse. If you're looking for a culinary destination, head to West Brookfield and visit this historic restaurant in Massachusetts.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Salem Cross Inn occupies a historic farmhouse that was built in 1705. In 1950, it was purchased and later restored by Henry and Dick Salem. The family-owned tavern and restaurant then opened its doors in 1961.
Its rustic and cozy atmosphere is a step back to simpler times when life didn't move so fast. You'll find colonial decor, fireplaces, and the only operating 17th-century roasting jack in America here.
When you arrive, sit down and enjoy the experience as you take it all in. Whether you dine in the restaurant or the tavern, you'll sense the history of the building all around you.
The extensive menu is filled with flavorful traditional colonial and American fare. Fresh ingredients are sourced on-site and locally whenever possible.
Maybe you'll start with New England seafood chowder or bacon-wrapped scallops and order Salem's Signature Sirloin, Maple Jack Chicken, or the chicken pot pie for your main course. And dessert? How does a slice of deep dish apple pie or a hot fudge sundae sound?
From the bar, you may enjoy a wide selection of wine, beer, and seasonal cocktails to complement your meal.
Salem Cross Inn hosts several dining events throughout the year. Among the most popular is the Fireplace Feast at which guests are treated to a 1700s-style feast along with a horse-drawn wagon ride.
