This Is The Most Hippie Town In Massachusetts And You Need To Visit

Massachusetts is known for being progressive in its politics, but it’s not really thought of as a bastion of laid-back hippie culture. However, one Bay State town may just give those groovy California communes a run for their money.

Northampton is a colorful community in Western Mass. that deserves the title of the most hippie town in the state.

Nestled in the peaceful Pioneer Valley, this town is anything but demure. Northampton is filled with quirky shops, friendly people and a vibrant arts scene.

It’s a magnet for students and graduates of nearby Hampshire, Smith and Amherst Colleges, schools known for their counterculture vibes.

The town itself is packed with eccentric touches like massive rainbow murals and unique public art.

The sense of community is strong here, too. Look out for events like weekly farmers markets and pop-up art exhibitions.

Any longtime or aspiring hippie will want to check out shops like Art Therapy, where beautiful glassworks and handmade accessories will inspire you to chill out.

You can practically smell the patchouli wafting through the air here.

Northampton also offerings plenty of opportunities to commune with nature. Places like Pulaski Park and Look Memorial Park are great spots to soak up some sunshine and enjoy the greenery.

The 1960s may be over, but this town still celebrates peace and love.

Even if you're not looking to don a tie-dye wardrobe anytime soon, Northampton is still worthy of a day trip.
