Make the most of your lunch break with a gourmet meal that is both fast and affordable! Since fleets of food trucks park in Boston every day, there’s probably one near you right now. Grab some fresh air and fresh food at these 10 food trucks – you won’t regret tracking them down.
1. The Bacon Truck
Unless you’re a vegetarian/vegan, resistance is futile. Once you know that there’s a food truck devoted entirely to bacon out there, you can’t help but stalk it. The Bacon Truck smells sooooo good. Order classics like a BLT to savor some locally smoked bacon, or a bacon grilled cheese with a slight twist - the sandwich includes tomatoes, along with cheddar and Havarti. Round off your feast with a chocolate bacon truffle or some nutella-covered bacon! Stay up to date on their location on their website here.
2. Mei Mei Street Kitchen
The creative Chinese-American fare that made Mei Mei's brick-and-mortar restaurant popular is also available from their food truck! Scallion pancakes sandwiches? Sign me up for the "Ham and Cheese But Chinese!" Alternatively, grab one of the market bowls for a satisfying, flavor-filled lunch. Chase down Mei Mei here.
3. Cookie Monstah
Indulge your desire for dessert at one of these cookie/ice cream sandwich food trucks. Here you’ll find a Cup-O-Joe that won’t keep you up all night; this ice cream sandwich is an indulgent combination of double chocolate cookies and coffee Oreo ice cream. Another popular choice is the Salty Dog - salted caramel cookies bracketing turtle ice cream. You can track The Cookie Monstah here.
4. Stoked Wood Fire Pizza Co.
This food truck is equipped with a wood-fired pizza oven! It’s hard to believe that you can score pizza this tasty from a mobile restaurant. Pies are personal sized and made-to-order. A surprising number of them aren’t tomato sauce-based; branch out with a buffalo sauce pizza, or bite into a barbecue chicken and bacon pizza to sample Stoked’s barbecue sauce. Click here to chase down Stoked.
5. Bon Me
Bon Me has six physical locations, but their eight food trucks are scattered throughout the city. The rice bowl and the banh mi, which features an unexpected pork pate, are always good choices. Turn up the heat by topping your meal with spicy peanut sauce and wash it all down with some refreshing Thai basil limeade. Check out the Bon Me website to find the truck closest to you!
6. Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese
Roxy’s has been hailed as the purveyor of the best grilled cheese in Boston. But don’t let that fool you into thinking you’re dealing with cheese slapped between a couple of slices of bread. For one thing, the bread is organic and the menu includes some major tweaks of this classic sandwich. The Green Muenster (pictured) also includes bacon and guac; the Mighty Rib Melt combines caramelized onion, braised short rib, and fontina. Chase down Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese here.
7. Moyzilla
This food truck reinvented Asian comfort food and serves up delicious dumplings, like cheeseburger dumplings with secret sauce. The Colonel has nothing on the Moyzilla’s Japanese Fried Chicken, which comes with sriracha aioli. Track down the food truck on Moyzilla's Twitter page here.
8. Tenoch Mexican
In addition to a physical restaurant, Tenoch has two food trucks circulating through Boston. You can’t go wrong with one of the tortas from the wide selection they offer. Try the Adobada Torta or the Choriqueso (pictured), which oozes with cheese and chorizo. Chase down Tenoch Mexican here.
9. Sheherazad
This food truck specializes in Iraqi street food and has gained a loyal following for roasted Iraqi red chicken that is so tender, it just falls apart. The menu also features kubba (or kibbeh), Middle Eastern salads, and soups. Keep an eye on Sheherazad's website for updates on where to find them.
