The American dream allows everyone in our country to put in hard work and make an idea into a business, and success stories are all around us. We love stories of people who have built up from humble beginnings, and that is exactly what you will find in this Pine Tree State chain restaurant. From a tiny ice cream stand to a time-honored restaurant (and one of the best places to eat in Maine!), Governor’s Restaurant has made a major name for itself in our state.
Often considered to be one of the oldest restaurants in Maine, Governor’s has become a favorite family restaurant over the years for many Mainers.
The original location is in Old Town, but you can find locations in Waterville, Bangor, and even Presque Isle.
Inside you will find a bakery with delicious treats and a fun family-filled atmosphere.
Grab a booth or table in an establishment that has stayed very consistently the same over the last 60 years. The old-school vibe will make you feel at home and bring you back to your childhood of eating out. When you are inside, don't forget to look up to see the model train that follows a track hanging from the ceiling.
Governor’s started in humble beginnings as an ice cream stand named Cree-Mee’s.
When it became a full family restaurant, they no longer served ice cream out of the little window. However, in 2019, the original ice cream window came back and is now serving cones, shakes, and splits like it's 1959 all over again.
When you arrive for a meal, be prepared to enjoy homemade classics and delightful meals that everyone loves.
Comfort food abounds at Governor’s. Chicken fried steak, tender cutlets...Dive into a classic Bacon Cheddar Burger, get a taste of Tennessee’s finest with the Memphis BBQ Bacon Burger, or if you are hungry enough, take a bite of the giant Moose Burger. Unlike what the name suggests, it's not actually moose meat, but rather a huge 12 oz. beef patty with all the fixings.
But don't think there are just burgers here! Classics like meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and even tasty breakfasts fill the menu.
It’s hard to find a restaurant without a great seafood menu in Maine.
We do have the best lobster around, after all! So at Governor’s you will also find lobster rolls, fried shrimp, fried haddock, and so much more. Many delicious options await you in this staple Maine establishment.
Plus, Governor's is a bakery as well, so you'll find some epic cookies, pies, cakes, and more. When you are done feasting on the comfort food of your choosing, make sure to leave room for dessert!
They're all delicious, but we personally recommend any of the pie slices!
With over 60 years of experience, Governor's Restaurant in Maine has certainly been serving hungry families for a long time. It's no wonder why people come back time and time again to "Gov's" to indulge in great home-cooking-style comfort food and delicious desserts! Make sure to visit the Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery website to find a location near you and to confirm hours, menus, and specials.
For many of us, Governor's has some incredible family memories attached. Feel free to share yours with us in the comments!
