Do you love chocolate? Do you love New Orleans? Do you love adorable little shops in New Orleans that sell chocolate? This spot takes chocolate-making very seriously, and you'll be able to see that with your eyes as well as taste it in every bite when you stop through to pick up some sweets for your sweet — or even just for yourself! Read on to learn more about this wonderful and magical place.

This shop is owned and operated by New Orleans native Chris Nobles. He went to culinary school and worked in several restaurants after graduation but soon realized that his best option for long-term success was to specialize. After some thought, he recognized that chocolate, in particular, was his true calling. Nobles loves chocolate, people love chocolate, and New Orleans loves chocolate. Piety and Desire Chocolate was born.

In a short time, Nobles' abilities as a chocolatier rose to the top. In 2023, Piety and Desire was listed in the number one spot on USA Today's list of the Top 10 Chocolate Shops in the USA, and it's easy to see why.

Piety and Desire is well-known for its bean-to-bar-and-bonbon process. This shop hand-selects its beans, roasts them, winnows them (separates the shells from the cocoa nibs), grinds and refines, and conches the cocoa to make beautiful chocolate. From there, the chocolate is then tempered and made into sweet treats. The result is beautiful bonbons like these.

Piety and Desire also makes delectable chocolate bars. The shop recently rolled out a parade of flavors that Nobles views as a love letter to the Crescent City. From Strawberry Feels to Rouliason Rum to Café au Lait et Beignet and others, there's something among them for everyone. You're sure to be blown away.

When you stop in Piety and Desire Chocolate to peruse its offerings, plan to stay a while. You might try some of the shop's chocolate bark as a treat or sip some Cajun Drinking Chocolate. The shop is located in a building that once housed Caronna's Bar, and you'll love the 100+-year-old bar and mirrored glass. The atmosphere and vibe capture New Orleans perfectly, and you'll feel right at home as you settle in.

For the road, you might pick up a bonbon gift box. You'll be amazed at its beauty and it's a great gift for a friend or for yourself. Vegans and people with nut allergies will be happy to know that there are chocolates at Piety and Desire that they can enjoy, too.

This place is absolutely incredible and it's no surprise that it's not only well-known in New Orleans, but throughout Louisiana and the United States as well thanks to the love and passion that goes into every chocolate created by Nobles and his team. Don't miss this very special place - you're going to love everything about it.

After you visit the shop, you might consider walking off some of that chocolate on a tour of the nearby Garden District. This New Orleans Garden District History Walking Tour is a great option where you'll learn so much about this historic neighborhood. Have a grand adventure!
