I love all candy; I've yet to meet a sweet treat I didn't love. However, there is a hierarchy to my sweet tooth: homemade, old-fashioned candy reigns supreme. Now, combine homemade candy with a family-owned and operated small business, and I can feel the money flying out of my wallet. Schneider's Sweet Shop is a small-town candy shop in Bellevue, Kentucky, that I can't wait to visit.
Robert Schneider opened Schneider's Sweet Shop in 1939, and his second son, Jack, took over the candy shop in 1986.
Jack and his wife Kathy kept Robert's original homemade candy recipes, equipment, and techniques. In 2022, Jack's daughter, Kelly, became the shop owner, and Jack is still a full-time candy maker.
Schneider's Sweet Shop sells a variety of tasty candies and sweet treats, including candy apples, peanut brittle, ice cream, ice balls, and fudge.
The candy shop is known for its opera cream fudge, a white cream candy covered in chocolate. All of the candies are made on-site at the Fairfield Avenue store.
The candy shop produces seasonal and holiday items to help customers celebrate.
In February, Valentine's Day treats include heart-shaped opera cream hearts, melt-away hearts, and chocolate boxes. Easter treats include chocolate-covered cream eggs and chocolate-dipped Peeps.
In the fall, Schneider's makes several kinds of caramel apples.
The apples are covered in caramel and sometimes rolled in nuts, candy, and sprinkles. Don't these apples look like the perfect sweet fall treat?
Schneider's has an outdoor seating area where customers can enjoy their treats.
Bright red umbrellas shade several white tables. I bet many happy kids and kids at heart eat candy and ice cream here!
Lucky for candy lovers near and far, Schneider's Sweet Shop ships their candies across the United States.
Employees hand-wrap and package all the shipped candy so it arrives in the best shape possible. For a small fee, they will add an ice pack to candy packages going to warm climates.
